Farmer's Market at the Velvet Mill

We are so fortunate to have the Stonington Village Improvement Association (SVIA). Not only do they host and run the Stonington Village Farmers' Market, but they are undertaking a project to restore COMO Pond, maintain the James Merrill House, DuBois Beach and Mathews Park, and kickoff the Christmas Stroll every year with the decoration and lighting of the tree at the Stonington Free Library.

The Farmer's Market is every Saturday:

November through April at The Velvet Mill  from 10 am - 1 pm.
May through October at the Town Docks from 9 am - 12 pm.

The COMO Theater Kids Present Mr. Scrooge Finds Christmas

Embrace the holiday spirit and enjoy a FREE community performance of Mr. Scrooge Finds Christmas performed by the talented youth actors of the COMO Theater Kids program

FREE PERFORMANCES:
Friday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. &
Saturday, December 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Join us for at the COMO auditorium for this adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" which recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghosts of his former business partner Jacob Marley, Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After the visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man. 

All are welcome at these festive performances as we applaud our young actors who have been earnestly rehearsing!

Stonington Village Holiday Stroll

The annual Stonington Village Holiday Stroll is happening on Friday, December 7th!

WHERE:
Wadawanuck Square at 5:30 pm
Come sing, share a cup of cider and help Santa light the tree. Stroll down Water Street — the shops will be open and festive! Hitch a ride with Santa and his horse-drawn wagon through the Borough.

Pre-Stroll Fun for the Kiddos! From 3 pm to 5 pm, it’s cookies, cider, crafts and Twas the Night Before Christmas at Stonington Free Library. Story time starts at 5 pm. In the spirit of the season, please bring baby items for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center to place under the library’s giving tree.

International singing sensation Gianpaolo, The Italian Show, will be performing at Social Coffee Roastery with proceeds benefiting the Stonington Free Library. We hear there will be handmade cannolis too!

After the Stroll, shopping and dining, swing by La Grua Center where Nora Fox & Co will be performing at 7 pm.

The Stonington Garden Club and the Stonington Historical Society are hosting Deck the Walls Festival - an annual wreath-making festival that includes guided tours, a designer wreath sale, silent auction, giving tent and gifts.

The PREVIEW PARTY is Thursday, December 6th from 6 - 8 pm. Tickets are $20, online or at the door.

FREE ADMISSION and TOURS are Friday, December 7th and Saturday, December 8th from 10 am - 4 pm. Admission is free and guided tours run hourly.

Holiday Stroll at the American Velvet Mill

The historic Velvet Mill is hosting an annual Holiday Stroll and celebrating their 130 year anniversary on Saturday, November 24th from 3 pm - 9 pm. Dozens of vendors, food and drinks, activities for the kiddos, festive entertainment and so much more! The event will include a visit from Santa and the tree lighting.

The American Velvet Mill was built in 1888 by the town of Stonington, Connecticut as a way to attract business to the Borough. 130 years later, the Mill is home to small businesses and artist studios.

On November 9, the La Grua Center is opening an exhibit of the talented female photographers of Connecticut

Women Photographers of Connecticut was envisioned by Geneva Renegar in 2015 as a creative endeavor to collectively bring together all the talented female photographers of our Nutmeg State. It has been a vision fulfilled as the group now comprises well over 360 women (and growing) who are located throughout all parts of the beautiful state of Connecticut.

Opening reception will be Friday, November 9th from 5-7pm. This exhibit will run through the end of December. Please call for hours. Suggested donation $5.

Behind Stonington’s Doors, Every House Tells a Story.

On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the Stonington Historical Society invites you to “the most beautiful seaside village in New England” for a unique opportunity to step inside some of our most beautiful homes. A self guided tour of distinctive and architecturally significant homes will carry you across four centuries. The owners of these diverse properties will open their doors for you to experience Stonington from the inside out, including fascinating stories and secrets of the people who lived there. Each home has been carefully chosen to reflect the many facets of Stonington’s architectural and oral histories.

On the day of the tour you will receive a guidebook that includes a map indicating the location of homes and short descriptions of significant features and interesting histories.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the gate.

Your ticket also includes admission to the Society’s Old Lighthouse Museum and the Captain Palmer House.

There’s also a Preview Party on Friday, October 12 from 6 - 8 pm — A rare opportunity to spend an evening in one of Stonington’s most elegant and historic homes.
