The Art Walk is an annual event hosted by the Stonington Borough Merchants Association in mid-September. The one-day fair features the best of Southeastern Connecticut’s and Southern Rhode Island’s art scene, acoustic musical performances, the Borough’s shops, cultural assets, and restaurants. The event is free to the public and attracts visitors from across New England and beyond.

The event has quickly become known as a mecca for great local art and art-loving patrons. The goal is quality over quantity — a well-curated assortment of 100 painters, illustrators, watercolorists, sculptors, potters, makers, and photographers — lining Water Street with tents and tables, stretching all the way down to Cannon Square.

There are many art-related activities as well: There’s a roving performance artist, tours and exhibits at The Captain Palmer House, The Lighthouse Museum, The James Merrill House, La Grua Center, The Velvet Mill, and The Stonington Free Library (which also provides free activities for the kids), and a delightful scavenger hunt, The Glaze Vase Project, thanks to local potter and Art Walk participant, Lyndsay Meiklem Dean of Glaze Handmade. All of this — in the tiny footprint of Connecticut’s oldest village — the beautiful seaside town of Stonington Borough.
