Makers That Specialize in Sparkle

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we thought it would be a perfect time to feature two of the talented jewelry designers in Stonington Borough that stand out for their distinctive styles. These are not just jewelry shops — these are the makers!

Maggie Lee Designs

Tucked behind Grand & Water Antiques and accessible through a garden gate is Maggie Lee Designs, the workshop and Stonington Borough studio of jewelry designer Maggie Lee. Maggie specializes in the kind of jewelry you want to keep in your family forever. She carries a number of collections “with a coastal flair”, including the enormously popular Compass Rose Coordinates Collection. Maggie also takes on select custom work — pieces that could easily be found in a treasure chest.

Email Maggie at info@maggieleedesigns.com, visit her shop at 135 Water Street (select hours), website, Facebook, or Instagram pages.

Marquis Jewelry Academy

New to the neighborhood, Marquis Jewelry Academy is a must for those interested in hands-on creating or custom-designed jewelry. The owners are husband and wife goldsmiths Emily and Cal, who encourage students and clients alike to learn the fundamentals of jewelry. You can take the beginner to advanced classes, and “Wedding Band Workshops” where couples can make their own engagement and wedding rings. The jewelry they create is a bold blend of modern and antique aesthetics.

Email emarquisdesigns@gmail.com for a tour of their workshop at 65 Cutler Street in Stonington or visit their website, Facebook, or Instagram.
