Five Free Events to Make March Interesting

While we eagerly await spring and some semblance of normal, there are interesting events happening, in-person and online. We’ve rounded up five free events from some of our favorite venues that will keep you busy until it’s time to thaw out!

FRIDAY, MARCH 5th AT 5 PM

Fantastic Souls, Surreal Word — Argentina, Honduras, and Peru
Hosted by
La Grua Center (in-person and online)

Explore evocative work from artists Juan Balaguer, Juan Carlos Fernandez, Guido Garaycochea, and Michelle Melo of the Expressiones Cultural Center in New London, on display during the months of March and April. The exhibit will open with a virtual artist chat on Friday, March 5 at 5 pm. 

There will also be a virtual gallery for those artists who are not able to travel to the US due to COVID restrictions. Dedicated gallery hours begin the following week on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday afternoons 1-4 pm. Other times are available by appointment. Please call ahead (860) 535.2300.

Creative Flow Workshop with Phil Weaver-Stoesz
Hosted by
La Grua Center (online)

No artistic skill is required for this virtual workshop. Come as you are, bring your favorite material for making, and join the flow. This lightly-facilitated, meditative session led by educator and creator Phil Weaver-Stoesz is focused on making things with other people. All art forms are welcome — visual, writing, movement, sound — anything that relaxes, motivates or centers you. Spend an hour getting creative in a virtual group setting. Space is limited so register asap. This workshop is free but contributions are welcome.
